Leaders of Ukraine and Russia trying to negotiate a ceasefire in eastern Ukraine

On next Monday, Dec. 9, Volodymyr Zelenskiy and Vladimir Putin will hold their first face-to-face meeting in Paris with mediation by the French and German leaders. It is more than three years since the countries’heads of state last met. Leaders of the two countries will try to agree a ceasefire in eastern Ukraine and a prisoner swaps when they meet next week. Diplomats advice that prospects for peace remain weak, among Kiev constraints at political level and Moscow unwillingnes to not cede.
