ISIS grows back exploiting Iran-US crisis

Jan. 28 – The Islamic Caliphate of Iraq and Syria relatively declined in 2019 due to intense online monitoring and the killing, in October, of its leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

After the crises occurred between the US and Iran following General Suleimaniโ€™s death in an American raid in January, the extremist group is now starting a new offensive exploiting the break that American soldiers had to take from fighting in order to secure their troops and bases.

In the past few weeks, ambushes by sleeper cells of the Islamic State intensified both in Syria and Iraq, and dozens of people got wounded or killed.
