Mar. 19 – According to Reuters, a document – released by the European External Action Service, the EU operative instrument for foreign policy – states that Russian media have deployed a “significant disinformation campaign” against Western European countries in order to worsen the impact of the coronavirus, generating panic and spreading false stories about the virus and other related circumstances.
The nine-page internal document warns about the upcoming disinformation campaign and describes it as part of the Kremlin’s strategy of “attempting to subvert European societies”.
As an example of this campaign, the EU document cited the story of a U.S. soldier deployed to Lithuania was infected and hospitalized.
