Hungary to deploy military personnel to 140 state companies during coronavirus emergency

Defence Minister Tibor Benko said late on Wednesday 18 that Hungary will deploy special military task forces to monitor the operations of 140 state companies providing critical services during the coronavirus emergency.

Minister Benko told to the public television that the ad hoc task forces, composed by several soldiers, police officers and disaster unit workers, will inform the defense ministry on the companies’ activities.

The firms were not named but it was said that some of them are businesses operating in energy, telecommunications, transport and healthcare sectors.

The government has also announced a package of measures to mitigate the economic impact of the corononavirus emergency, including a moratorium on debt repayments.
