UK firefighters to deliver food, collect bodies in coronavirus crisis

The United Kingdom will use firefighters to support deliver food, retrieving dead bodies and driving ambulances as the peak of the coronavirus outbreak is approaching. The contagion has already cause more than 22,000 deaths across the world.

Firefighters will continue to undergo their usual duties but will now also carry out those new tasks under a deal between the Fire Brigades Union (FBU), Fire chiefs and Fire and Rescue Employers.

Under the agreement other than collecting those who are deceased, in case should there be mass casualties, firefighters would drive ambulances, and take food and medicine to the vulnerablec people.

this is very important service and this shows that fire fighters form a very important cog in the wheel of security and security systems, here in Kenya fire fighters are not treated as part of the mainstream security providers and this should be an eye opener to the policy makers especially during times of crises of covid-19 magnitude
