Britain and the United States said on Tuesday 5th in a joint warning that Hackers backed by Governments are targeting healthcare and research institutions in order to steal valuable information about efforts to contain the new coronavirus outbreak.
Britain’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) and the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) said in a statement that the hackers attacked pharmaceutical companies, research organisations and local governments.
The NCSC and CISA did not mention the countries that were responsible for the attacks. According to Reuters, one U.S. official and one UK official said the statement was a response to attacks suspected to be attempted by Chinese, Iranian hackers, and Russian-linked activities.
The two officials discuss non-public details of the warning with Reuters on condition of anonymity. Iran, China and Russia have all declined any responsability in such cyber attacks and say they are themselves victims of these malevolent attempts of intrusion.
