Aug. 17 – At least sixteen people died in an attack realized by Al Shabaab on a hotel in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu. On Sunday the Islamist group’s militants assaulted the Elite Hotel detonating a car bomb and using assault fires. According to a government spokesman, among the sixteen deaths also 5 militants are included. Furthermore, at least 43 people were injured in the attack.
The main goal of Al Shabaab is establishing their rules, based on a strict interpretation of the Sharia. Al Shabaab has always used bombs and gun assaults on military and civilian targets across Somalia, Kenya and Uganda.
Just last Monday there has been another attack, this time against the Somalian military base in the Goofgadund area. Five soldiers were killed.
